Psychosocial and Emotional Support

At ADPF, we believe that the social, psychological and emotional health of people living with Parkinson’s, their caregivers and families are highly essential to the holistic care and management of Parkinson’s. Thus, we have curated the following programs to promote connection, resilience, and mental health:

  • 1

    Community Building

Through monthly social support group sessions, people living with Parkinson’s find safe, inclusive spaces to connect, share experiences, and receive encouragement.

Building their own community facilitated by trained professionals in areas such as brain health, nutrition, physiotherapy, and emotional wellness, these sessions foster community, reduce isolation, and promote overall mental and emotional well-being. A core goal is raising awareness, educating the Nigerian public and shaping a positive perception of Parkinson’s disease across Nigeria. ADPF does this through awareness events, webinars and training for medical and non-medical personnel, and advocacy campaigns.

    Family Therapy & Caregiver Support

Parkinson’s disease also affects caregivers and families; ADPF runs support groups, counselling and training sessions that empower them with practical tools and knowledge. Professional therapy sessions help families address emotional strain and strengthen mutual understanding—building harmony, empathy, and resilience to improve caregiving effectiveness.
